Russian Emergency Situations Minister Aleksandr Kurenkov is in Cuba for high-level meetings and site visits.
Havana, Cuba.- Kurenkov will re-inaugurate the National Museum of Cuban Firefighters and honor Soviet soldiers who died in Cuba on duty. He will also meet with Cuban Civil Defense officers and visit the Fidel Castro Ruz Center.
On Wednesday, Kurenkov was welcomed by Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel at the Palace of the Revolution. The president expressed gratitude for Russia’s support in addressing natural disasters and the challenges posed by the US blockade. Kurenkov remarked that his visit would strengthen the friendship between the two nations and thanked the opportunity for discussion with the president, emphasizing the goal of enhancing cooperative relations.
He also toured the Cuban Fire Department, visiting the Special Rescue and Salvage Unit, where he engaged with leaders from the Ministry of the Interior and the Cuban Fire Department. He learned about bilateral collaboration strategies and the mission of the unit, which includes international assistance during disasters.
He also visited the Cuba-Russia Regional Fire and Rescue Training Center, where he delivered a donation of firefighting equipment as part of ongoing cooperation agreements, which involve Russian specialists participating in training courses in Cuba. (PL)
