The Environmental Studies Laboratory of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), based in Monaco, is conducting important studies on pollution in Cuba's marine ecosystems.
Havana, Cuba.-Through rigorous and internationally recognized techniques, the IAEA is calculating the economic and financial potential of blue carbon in Cuba and providing doctoral courses on various subjects to local specialists, the Ministry of Science, Technology, and the Environment (CITMA) reported.
CITMA's first deputy minister, José Fidel Santana Núñez, a member of the Cuban delegation to the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference, which was held in Nice, visited the facility in Monaco, where he learned about its practices in support of environmental preservation.
A study by international organizations warned that the Earth is overstepping another planetary limit as ocean acidification exceeds critical levels to the detriment of marine life and the sustainability of fisheries.
“Without a healthy ocean, there cannot be a healthy planet”, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said at the opening Monday of the summit co-chaired by France and Costa Rica. (ACN)
