The objective of the Government Program to correct distortions and boost the economy aimed at increasing national production, with emphasis on food, was the focus of the analysis of the Council of State in its ordinary session attended by the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.

Havana, Cuba.- Headed by Esteban Lazo Hernández, President of that Body, they examined the state of compliance with the plan of measures derived from the exercise of the highest supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, and the fulfillment of the productive programs contained in Law 148 “On Food Sovereignty and Food and Nutritional Security."

The Deputy Prime Minister Jorge Luis Tapia Fonseca discussed the current situation of agricultural production in the country and the main programs prioritized. For his part, the Minister of Agriculture, Ydael Pérez Brito, stated that the Food Sovereignty and Food and Nutritional Security Law favors the fulfillment of the actions, indicators, and goals contemplated in this objective of the Government Program.

The report presented by the Agrifood Commission of the Cuban Legislative recommended, among other vital aspects, to gradually and sustainably recover the productive volumes demanded by the economy.

Subsequently, Carlos Rafael Fuentes León, Vice-President of the Parliamentary Commission of Attention to the Local Bodies of the People's Power, presented some considerations on the participation and exercise of popular control by the local bodies of the People's Power.

In this regard, Esteban Lazo urged all institutions to promote popular control as an essential part of socialist democracy.

Félix Martínez Suárez, Chairman of the Economic Affairs Commission of the Parliament, reported on the results of the control of agreements related to the Government Program to correct distortions and re-drive the economy in the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources and the Ministry of Industries.

In the ordinary session corresponding to June, the members of the Council of State also approved the Customs Decree-Law.

On the other hand, they evaluated the compliance with Law 174 of the State Budget for the year 2025, especially the measures to reduce the deficit or increase the fiscal surplus.

In addition, the sixth special provision of the aforementioned legal norm regarding the adjustments to the territorial contribution for local development was checked.

Finally, the Council of State checked the compliance with the plan of measures derived from the exercise of the highest supervision of the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources and Law 124 of Terrestrial Waters. (Granma)
