After eight months of paralysis, the Acinox Las Tunas Stainless-Stell Company has resumed the production of carbon steel billets for export.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- Onis López Caballero, general director of Acinox, says that ‘as a result of important decisions taken by the country's top management, production has been restarted. The batch is already in the final phase and has the required quality. This will allow us to fulfill the agreements made with the customer.
Likewise, the manufacture of corrugated bars for concrete reinforcement was reactivated to support priority programs, such as housing.
"We have created the conditions for securing raw materials and materials in the Steel Mill and the 200-T Laminator to be able to conclude the orders for the remainder of the current calendar," confirmed López Caballero.
To conserve its workforce during this period, the steel industry opted for the alternative of creating workgroups that focused on providing technical maintenance services, linked to the Provincial Government.
"The services have been directed, to a greater extent, to strategic sectors for the economic and social development of the territory, such as Health and Hydraulic Resources; as well as actions with an impact on society such as the recovery of children's parks and the Zoo-Amusement Park recreational complex in the capital city."
"These have been great social contributions of our entity and, at the same time, have represented a source of income, which allowed us to close 2023 and the first half of this year with profits, generated by the development of these secondary productions and professional technical services," explained Ramón Wilfredo Ávila, deputy director of Acinox.
With the delivery of steel scrap from the Raw Materials Recovery companies from Guantánamo to Villa Clara, both by rail and road, this new productive stage begins, which will contribute to revitalizing the national economy.
