The celebration of Banking Workers' Day in Cuba on October 13 is because the Cuban revolutionary government approved the Law of Nationalization of Banking on that day, in 1960.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- An official ceremony was held to recognize outstanding workers and those who have worked within banking institutions for more than 20 years with the Enrique Hard Dávalos Medal.
One of those honored was Noemí Ortiz Fonseca, for her 21 years of work in the provincial management of the Banco de Crédito y Comercio, BANDEC (Credit and Commerce Bank). "The work we do in each of our branches has always been much harder because serving the business sector and new economic actors represents a challenge in terms of self-improvement in each of the regulations approved by the country.
"This is a recognition of bankers in general. Our work is not easy, besides the commitment and sense of belonging we must have according to our role in society."
Also, workers with 30 years of service were recognized and the Distinguished Collective Distinction was awarded.
Andro Acosta Hernández, secretary-general of the Provincial Union of Public Administration told those present: "This sector has been at the center of the transformations of the country’s economic and financial sector; therefore, commitment grows, I urge you to continue being better and to participate in the activities convened by the Cuban Workers’ Federation in greeting to the 22nd Labor Congress."
