Neighbors of Popular Council 18, from the Santos, Buena Vista, Los Pinos, and Río Potrero neighborhoods, in Las Tunas municipality, delivered a donation this Saturday for those affected by Hurricane Oscar in the Guantánamo province.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- The activity, organized, among other entities, by the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) and the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR), demonstrated the solidarity and unity of the Cuban people in times of crisis.
Ricardo Romero Draque, president of this popular council, highlighted the importance of such an initiative and how “it reflects the commitment of our district to those who need it most." His message was clear: “Brotherhood is a fundamental value that unites all Cubans.”
Among those who came to the Cultural Plaza of the emblematic Tanque de Buena Vista was Edith García Hernández, one of the organizers and FMC founder, who expressed her sadness at the disasters caused by the hurricane. However, she was optimistic and said: “We always look with the flag held high because united we can win. We will continue fighting.”
The testimonies spoke of a deep empathy towards the Guantanamo brothers. “We would like to help with more but every small gesture counts. Here we are, supporting our Revolution and compatriots,” added García Hernández.
Ariadna Cruz Pérez, a deputy to the Cuban Parliament and another of the promoters of this contribution, stressed the contribution of the people. “Everyone has donated what they could, from clothing to objects of sentimental value,” she indicated.
Boxes of non-perishable food and necessities, beds, and mattresses were collected. “We never imagined that so many people would step forward to help. The response has been overwhelming,” Cruz Pérez added.
The donation not only represents material support for those affected; it is also a symbol of resilience in the face of adversity. As one of the participants said: “This is from Cuba, from Fidel, from all Cubans. We will be there for whatever is needed.”
