17th Plenary Session of the Las Tunas PCC Provincial Committee.

The members of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) in Las Tunas called for achieving efficiency and quality in the 2024-2025 sugar harvest while evaluating the preparations for the campaign and the implementation of the 93 measures for the activity's recovery.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- At the 17th plenary session of the political organization, it was reported that only the Antonio Guiteras sugar mill, in the municipality of Puerto Padre, will process some 675,500 tons of cane to obtain 45,685 tons of sugar.

It is such a lower figure in relation to the mil potential; however, fulfilling the plan will be difficult because of many complexities due to the poor condition of the sugarcane roads and the high presence of vines in the sugarcane fields due to the persistent lack of herbicides.

Added to the difficulties that the contest will face is that 75 percent of the sugarcane to be milled is pending from previous processes, which affects yields and demands greater attention from specialists, managers, and workers in general.

Despite the material limitations that affect the national economy, the country prioritizes the resources required by the sugarcane sector, which is strategic for territorial development. Thus, important resources have already been received -or are about to arrive- that will improve the work of cutting, loading, and transporting the grass.

17th Plenary Session of the PCC Las Tunas Provincial Committee

Eddy Felipe Hechavarría, director of the Azcuba coordinating group in the province, explained that protective equipment, shoes, clothing, oil for turbos and tires, and batteries for trucks and combined cutting machines, among other supplies, were assigned.

The attendees referred to the importance of planting more sugarcane and involving various organizations and entities, especially for the attention to the cutting platoons and the industry labor force. They also pointed out the imperative of preventing the occurrence of criminal acts.

Walter Simon Noris, first secretary of the Provincial Committee of the PCC, said that the workers and leaders involved in the harvest must raise the sense of belonging, control, and surveillance in the factory and sugar communities.

He noted that fulfilling the sugar production would be a starting point for greater efforts, which can be achieved with the dedication of the different groups in the fulfillment of their missions, maintenance, and the optimal use of the 104 planned days.

The main province's economic results were also analyzed at the plenary, in which good results were not achieved due to the shortage of raw materials and fuels, the instability in the electric service, and the lack of initiatives and creative work in some entities.

In addition, the Executive Bureau gave an account of its management during 2024, a period of intense work amid the scarce availability of material resources that imposed new ways of doing things to maintain the territory's main economic and social achievements.

In this regard, Simón Noris pointed out that people’s participation is decisive in various activities such as the fight against crime and illegalities, food production, the rational use of electricity and fuel, and cities and towns beautification.

Finally, he conveyed a recognition to the people of Las Tunas for their dedication to different tasks, congratulated them for the end and beginning of the year, and urged them to celebrate the 66th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution immersed in the Tarea de Grandes political movement.
