La Herradura 1 wind farm advances its civil works

The civil construction of the La Herradura 1 wind farm, located on the northern coast of the province of Las Tunas, is nearing completion. This progress paves the way for the installation of 22 wind turbines as part of the investment program agreed upon with the People's Republic of China.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Carlos Arias Sobrino, general director of the Electric Company of this eastern territory, explained to the press that only details are missing to declare ready works such as the electrical substation, which will receive the generated energy, and the maintenance and operations center, fundamentally.

The director recalled that this park, located on the coast of the municipality of Jesús Menéndez, was designed for 34 wind turbines but, in the first stage, 22 with a capacity of 33 megawatts (MW) will be installed.

Meanwhile, a third photovoltaic solar park is being built in the municipality of Puerto Padre, with a capacity of 5 MW. Together with two others already in operation in Manatí, they will add up to 16 MW.

With the completion of these two works, Las Tunas will generate almost 50 MW, which will mean progress in the province's aspirations to cover the demand of the territory and contribute to the National Electricity System.

The province could be one of the first to depend less and less on fossil fuels if the projects of the Las Tunas Electric Company materialize, which include the La Herradura 2 wind farm, also in the municipality of Jesús Menéndez, and the areas located in all the municipalities for solar parks.
