The workers of the Provincial Union of Industries (SNTI in Spanish) will have a voice and a vote at the 22nd Congress of the CTC, to be held in Havana in April this year, to which they will bring the main achievements of these labor collectives that demonstrate in everyday life the possibility of advancing despite difficulties.
Las Tunas, Cuba - Elena Emilia Chagues Leyva and Luis Cruz Ortiz, both elected delegates to the great meeting of the Cuban working class, will take on this task, in which this sector will bring 33 of its affiliates, confirmed Yaquelín Baños Torres, secretary general of the SNTI.
Chagues Leyva is currently head of the Propaganda Department of the National CTC Committee; but her links with this branch date back to 1990, when she headed the trade union bureau of the Celia Sánchez Manduley textile factory in Santiago de Cuba, and also served as secretary general of the provincial bureau of this union in Las Tunas. In her long and fruitful career as a member of the workers' movement, she held different positions in that organization and the CTC.
For his part, Luis Cruz Ortiz is the secretary-general of the trade union bureau of the Calixto Sarduy base business unit (UEB in Spanish), known as Muebles Ludema in the Cuban business world, with five decades of experience as a trade union leader.
Cruz Ortiz is also a member of the National Council of the CTC. He has been selected as a National Vanguard for 15 consecutive years and holds the Jesús Menéndez and Lázaro Peña medals of the third degree. He has attended the three National Conferences of his union and the 20th and 21st congresses of the CTC.
They received the mandate by the secret and direct vote of the 30 pre-candidates elected in the organic process developed in the union sections, and any of them could be elected for their accumulated merits, remarked Baños Torres.
The worker's leader expressed her confidence that the 33 delegates who will attend the 22nd Congress for this union will be worthy representatives of its more than four thousand members, their concerns, expectations, and the daily demonstrations of dedication in the search for alternatives to confront the economic and financial limitations that the nation is experiencing.
In the exchange, he reminded me that the process of presenting the plan and budget for the coming year to the workers will be carried out until February, and called to do it pleasantly and deeply to achieve, with the participation and collective experience, to put all the potentialities of the labor collectives in terms of solutions.
