In the outskirts of Delicias, a town belonging to the municipality of Puerto Padre, forces of the Construction and Assembly Company (Conalza in Spanish) and electrical workers are promoting the civil works required for the assembly of the technological equipment of the photovoltaic solar park Nueva Línea.
Puerto Padre, Las Tunas.- According to the electrical engineer Roberto Pérez Peña, head of the work, they are now working hard on the first two plots of the seven conceived, each one with the potential to provide three Megawatts, and they are carrying out conditioning works in the rest of the 32 hectares.
He explains these are part of the minimum scheme and they intend to incorporate them into the generation as soon as they are ready to deliver six MW to the National Electric Energy System (SEM) and, simultaneously, to continue executing the general project.
Pérez Peña confirms that the facility is designed to generate 21 megawatts using as a source the energy of the Astro Rey, abundant in the area, and is the largest of its kind in the province, where the four in operation together deliver only 11 MW to the SEN.
It is a millionaire investment, an example of the Cuban State's efforts to change the country's energy matrix towards renewable and clean sources. In its 22 effective hectares, 1,638 tables will be placed as supports for more than 42,000 photovoltaic panels.
Workers from Cuba's Telecommunications Company S.A. (ETECSA, Spanish) are there along with electricians and builders. As work progresses, other specialized entities such as the basic business unit (UEB in Spanish) ATI Camagüey, attached to the Empresa de Tecnología de la Información y Automática, and Copextel, will join the project, the executive added.
The electrical engineer comments that they have been recruiting the future 30 workers, “relatively, young people, between 25 and 35 years of age, whom we are already preparing,” and that five colleagues who studied at the sector's National Training School, located in Juraguá, Cienfuegos, together with the professors of the Training UEB belonging to the province's Electric Company, are responsible for training the personnel.
