Several practical exercises and actions were conducted in the eight municipalities of Las Tunas to ensure a transition to a state of war and confront the various phases of the enemy's unconventional warfare during Territorial Defense Day.
Las Tunas, Cuba.– The main activities took place in Defense Zone (DZ) 310517 of this city, with the participation of Osbel Lorenzo Rodríguez, president of the Provincial Defense Council; and Vice President Yelenis Tornet Menéndez, along with members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces and the Ministry of the Interior, as well as representatives of the area's residents.
First, they listened to a brief overview of the DZ's characteristics, which cover 36.7 square kilometers, including the city’s industrial zone. More than 23,000 inhabitants reside in the Aguilera, La Caldosa, El Cornito, and Las Catalinas neighborhoods.
During the event, the groups and subgroups presented their procedures to guarantee basic services to the population before, during, and after the systematic demolition actions. Exercises were held to develop skills such as shooting, arming and disarming rifles, and neutralizing drones. Training was also provided on protective equipment against weapons of mass destruction.
Lorenzo Rodríguez emphasized the need for constant contact with the population, explaining to them the current situation and what is being done to address the impacts on food, water, and electricity, as well as the consequences of the war in Iran, one of the world's leading oil-producing countries.
In conversation with members of the food subgroup, he emphasized the importance of planting and harvesting vegetables, particularly cassava, due to its widespread use in various dishes. He also criticized the management of the El Mango organic garden, whose flowerbeds are mostly empty and have no visible natural means for pest control.
The activities for Territorial Defense Day concluded with a ceremony of revolutionary reaffirmation, during which the day's most outstanding participants were recognized.
