Plenary Session of the PCC Provincial Committee

Recognition to those who have been, as volunteers or health professionals, in the isolation centers for suspected or confirmed patients with the COVID-19 disease, transmitted the member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), Manuel Pérez Gallego.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- During the Ordinary Plenary Session of the Provincial Committee -held by videoconference and complying with the established measures in this epidemiological situation- its first secretary in Las Tunas said that they have done a commendable job in very difficult conditions.

He extended his gratitude to the people of Las Tunas, who are growing in the face of different socioeconomic situations that will be overcome with optimism, discipline, responsibility, and the work of the different organizations, plus the measures adopted in the territory to reduce the impact of the new coronavirus.

Precisely, concerning the confrontation with the pandemic, Governor Jaime Chiang Vega explained that health care has been maintained in all municipalities despite the intensification of the U.S. blockade against Cuba and its consequences.

He said that the province has a complex financial situation and the second half of 2021 will also be tense, so it is necessary to ensure compliance with the budget and the saving of inputs and electricity, besides the improvement of certain sectors.

The transformation into one of them, that of Commerce, Gastronomy and Services, was the main topic of the plenary session, in which compliance with the implementation of changes in 28 centers, now converted into base business units (UEB), was evaluated.

Each of the UEBs has directors with experience in the activity and responsible for applying alternatives to guarantee workers' wages and generate profits while providing a quality service and respect for the people, their main reason for being.

For this, they have contracts with different companies and organizations to facilitate the acquisition of supplies, besides the options granted by Resolution 99, referring to self-management for the search for inputs with productive forms and self-employed workers, among other possibilities.

The opinions of the members of the Committee resulted in the varied offers of food to take away, the novelty of the change, and the motivation of the administrations; but they also signified the concerns of various groups, since most of the profits are allocated to contributions and taxes and the salary of the workers is still very low.

Likewise, those present evaluated the main economic indicators of Las Tunas until the end of April, when effects were reported in 34 entities and non-compliance with physical production and some exportable items such as sugar, steel billets, and charcoal.
