exchange between President Miguel Díaz-Canel in the meeting with the political and government authorities in the municipality of Amancio

The problems in the economy and the urgent need for its leaders to link up with the citizenry were the focus of the exchange between the first secretary of the Party's Central Committee and president of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, and the political and government authorities in the municipality of Amancio, south of Las Tunas.

“Amancio,” Las Tunas.- In the dialogue, which was also attended by Roberto Morales Ojeda, Secretary of the Organization of the Central Committee, the first secretary of the Party in the province Walter Simón Noris, and the governor Jaime Ernesto Chiang Vega, Díaz-Canel pointed out the urgency of increasing the link between the local leadership and the people on the ground. "If we don't link up with the people, we won't achieve anything," he said.

The Cuban President made an aside to comment on the tense situation the country is going through with electricity generation. He said that the breakdown of several plants coincided with the maintenance of others before the summer. This, he stressed, should be explained to the people, "so that they know that there is an uncomfortable but temporary situation". This information effort, he added, is not only the responsibility of the media but should also be accompanied by political work in the communities.

In terms of the economy, he pointed out the importance of the future of this territory of the fate of the Agro-industrial Company's fate, promoting business self-consumption, and urban and suburban agriculture.

They can make a difference if they put their minds to it as the sites visited have demonstrated. "If they can, why can't the other collectives," he insisted.

Las Tunas, he said, has the highest prices in the country for beans per pound and among the highest for rice. In this regard, he emphasized that it is urgent to find local sources of supply, not only for food but also for other items of common use such as toiletries. At the same time, there can be no delay in highly sensitive matters.

The Central Committee's analysis pointed to inflation and food production as the biggest concerns of the people and warned that the link between political and government leaders and the citizenry must be strengthened. At the same time, he criticized the party work in this district, which, he said, should strengthen its internal life, especially in the analysis that its nuclei make about their closest problems.

He also warned about the lack of comprehensive vision of the authorities to address the difficulties of a municipal economy that suffers from repeated payments without productive support and delays in the bank restructuring process. Similarly, there are no prospects for the training of new professionals, especially in key areas of the region such as agriculture, while the number of common crimes has risen compared to the previous year.
