Every September 30, the world pays tribute to translators and their fundamental work in intercultural communication. This date, designated as International Translators' Day, besides to celebrating the linguistic skills of interpreters, highlights the importance of translation to overcome language barriers.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The occasion was established in 1991 by the International Federation of Translators (FIT) to commemorate the figure of Saint Jerome, considered the first translator of the Bible into Latin. His work laid the foundations for modern translation.

Currently press translation stands out as an important branch when addressing the subject; current events demand immediacy in disseminating news, but expressing journalistic terms in another language is not an easy task.

Dayana Almanza Garcés, translator for 26 Newspaper, emphasizes that the work demands precision and care to prevent news from being decontextualized. Effective translations require an understanding of each region's cultural contexts and language usage.

Being a translator for a media outlet is a source of pride for her. She says she faces constant ethical and editorial challenges. She says that respecting standards and understanding the writing style of those she translates daily also allows her to feel like a journalist.

International Translators' Day is an opportunity to recognize the invaluable contribution that translators make to our society. Their work not only facilitates communication but also promotes mutual understanding and cultural appreciation.
