October 1 was established as the International Day of Older Persons 34 years ago by the United Nations General Assembly to grant the priority that aging deserves in the international and national discussion, and give space to urgent actions in the various social spheres.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- "Aging with dignity: strengthening care and assistance systems for older people around the world" is the theme that this time focuses the celebrations worldwide. Population aging is one of the most pronounced social dynamics, and each society must become aware of and support old age in all possible variants.

The number of older people is expected to exceed that of youngsters throughout the planet by 2030. Such a demographic change has significantly transformed the field of care, which encompasses a wide range of assistance needs, from which Cuba does not escape.
