The Syrian and Russian president discussed bilateral relations.

Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad began a working visit to Russia today, during which he reportedly met with his counterpart, Vladimir Putin.

Damascus.- According to a presidential release, the two leaders discussed bilateral relations and the situation in the Middle East.

At their meeting, Al-Assad said Syria and Russia face tough challenges, assuring they will be able to overcome them.

The Syrian head of State further stressed the mutual trust and credibility on which the relations between the two nations are sustained.

Meanwhile, Putin noted that the talks with Al-Assad were an opportunity to examine all possible developments and scenarios in light of the increasingly tense conditions in the Middle East.

The Kremlin leader revealed there are promising opportunities for economic and trade relations between Damascus and Moscow.

Syria and Russia have commemorated this July the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations when both presidents ratified their strategic partnership. (PL)
