Russia is deeply concerned over the current explosive escalation between Israel and Iran, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said today.
Moscow.- The spokeswoman wrote on her Telegram channel on Saturday that the concern stems from the fact that the situation poses a real threat to stability and security in the Middle East region.
According to the diplomat, the causes of this situation lie in the failure to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict based on the well-known decisions of the Security Council and the UN General Assembly, which has led to increasing tensions.
“We consider it extremely necessary to normalize the military and political situation in the Middle East as soon as possible, which would meet the interests of all reasonable players inside and outside the region,” she said.
Zakharova also called for restraint on all sides regarding Israeli airstrikes on Iranian territory. “We must stop provoking Iran to retaliate and get out of the spiral of uncontrolled escalation,” she stressed.
She also assured that Russia is ready to work with all sides to reduce the level of confrontation.
In the early hours of Saturday morning, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched precision strikes against military targets in Iran in response to earlier Iranian bombings.
The IDF stated that the main targets of the attack were missile production facilities that Iran has fired at Israeli territory throughout the year.
Iranian air defense groups denounced that Israel attacked several military centers in the provinces of Tehran, Khuzestan, and Ilam, causing limited damage. Two soldiers were later reported killed in the attacks. (PL)
