Humanity commemorates World Cancer Day on February 4, aiming to raise awareness about this disease and mobilize to prevent and combat this global epidemic.
Geneva.- Promoted by the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), and the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), the theme for 2025-2027 is “United by Unique”, which places people at the center of care and explores new ways of making a difference.
Experts emphasize that every cancer is unique and it will take each of us, united, to create a world where we look beyond the disease and see the person before the patient.
Cancer is a disease that causes a group of cells in the body to grow abnormally and uncontrollably, resulting in a lump or mass that occurs in all cancers except leukemia.
If left untreated, the tumor usually invades the surrounding tissue, can metastasize, and eventually spread to other areas of the body.
The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) urged the governments of Latin America and the Caribbean to improve access to essential drugs and equipment to treat cancer. (PL)
