Both Russia and the United States described the more than four hours of talks held on Tuesday in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, as positive and constructive, affirmed today the Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.

Moscow.- The most important thing is that contact took place, and both sides characterized it in a positive and constructive tone, the spokeswoman said in an interview for a radio program this Wednesday.

The diplomat stated that the talks were neither a negotiation nor an ordinary meeting and recalled that there had been no contact between the two countries for three years.

"Can you imagine two permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), playing a special role in the world, and in many cases, problems and issues in common had no contact because they were completely blocked by the previous administration?" Zakharova added.

Russia was represented by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov; and Kirill Dmitriev, Chief Executive Officer of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF).

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and Special Envoy to the Middle East Steven Witkoff took part in the talks in Saudi Arabia. (PL)
