Angola is moving forward today with several actions to produce its own medicines, for which it expects to put into operation a pharmaceutical production complex next year.

Luanda.- The facility, located within the Special Economic Zone (ZEE) -in the current province of Icolo and Bengo-, should have the capacity to produce 1.7 million tablets and capsules annually, as well as 50 million vials of injectable medicines.

Under the responsibility of the Vitaflor company, it is also expected to be able to manufacture 35 million bags of serum and 13,000 kilograms/day of medical gases, the Jornal de Angola reported.

The project, which is financed by the Angolan Sovereign Fund (FSA), is in its early stages, as the first stone has just been laid, but the parties involved expect it to be completed in the next 18 months.

The SEZ currently has more than 60 business projects underway, headed by those linked to the food and pharmaceutical sectors.

According to the president of the board of directors of the SEZ, Manuel Pedro, in the next few months, the country will have several of these industries, which will be added to the 89 already existing in this area, corresponding to various branches. (PL)
