Arab leaders unanimously condemned today the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip and any plan to displace Palestinians from their lands, as proposed by current US President Donald Trump.
Cairo.- A new exodus of the Palestinian people is unacceptable, said the Secretary General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, speaking at an extraordinary regional summit held in the New Administrative Capital, located about 45 kilometers from Cairo.
Palestinians should not be subjected to such injustice again, the official stressed.
Without mentioning Trump, Aboul Gheit warned that the region “cannot be threatened by unrealistic projects.”
The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Hussein Ibrahim Taha, spoke in similar terms, denouncing “the statements and plans aimed at displacing the Palestinian people from their lands.”
When welcoming those present, the President of Egypt, Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, stated that the Israeli aggression against the Strip is a stain on the history of humanity.
The objective of the war campaign is to empty this coastal enclave, but we cannot participate in this injustice, stressed the head of state.
He also condemned the Israeli military operations in the occupied West Bank and warned that Jerusalem is not only a city but “a symbol of our identity.”
We reject any measure that undermines our sovereignty, said the Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, who praised a plan presented by Cairo to rebuild Gaza.
We call on Trump to support the process without expelling its inhabitants, he stressed. Abbas claimed the right of the Palestinian National Authority to govern in that territory, despite the rejection of the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
For his part, the Secretary General of the UN, António Guterres, rejected the Israeli occupation of Gaza and demanded that the country allow the entry of humanitarian aid to the territory, devastated after 15 months of attacks.
He also called for the release of Israeli and Palestinian prisoners, held by both sides. Meanwhile, the King of Jordan, Abdullah II, advocated supporting a plan to rebuild the Strip without expelling its inhabitants.
He also questioned the Israeli decision to prevent the entry of vital products to that enclave, which he considered a violation of international law.
The two-state solution, which includes a homeland for the Palestinians, is the only way to achieve a fair and comprehensive peace in the Middle East, he said. (PL)
