Half-price sale of agricultural products promoted by Mercasa

It was not the first time, nor will it be the last, because helping Cuba is helping its people, and with this premise, the company Mercasa, in the province of Las Tunas, held a sale to people in vulnerable situations.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The venue was the El Mambí market, leased by this form of non-state management, and men and women from various districts of this city, whose names were previously given by the delegates of the People's Power in their areas of residence, arrived at the beautiful facility.

The day passed calmly, but with many feelings on the part of most of the beneficiaries, especially gratitude because the prices were only 50 percent of those approved by the Municipal Administration Council.

One of these people, Nancy Proenza García, said she felt good because the food, vegetables, and fruit she bought were of excellent quality. And the best thing is that, because of their price, they are within her reach; in other words, within the reach of her pocket as a sick woman.

"I am grateful and I think this should be done more often. If more entities unite, we will win because with unity we move forward. It was a very nice gesture and I am also grateful that when I bought the meat, they gave me a sunflower."

Until some time ago, the market was sold every week, with discounts of up to 15 percent of the total price, according to María Julia Torres Reyes, the market's administrator, who said that the collective wants to maintain this service, with more attractive prices.

Yosvanys Fernández Rodríguez, tenant of the El Perejil production area, was the only economic actor who joined Mercasa's call. He did so because he considers himself a good human being and understands that disadvantaged people should be helped.

"It is difficult for them to buy some things at the prices that are now on the street. I have only been renting this space for seven months, but I brought five quintals of meat, which were sold at three pounds per capita, at a value of 150 pesos each."

Argel Fundora Acosta, director of Mercasa, said that the company has a social component and, as a producer-commercialize of agricultural products, they took up this type of sales for people in vulnerable situations.

"We intend to call on other MSMEs because the time has come to demonstrate that this type of entity is a necessary asset. In addition, we can add state companies and individual producers, all united to favor this segment of the population."

In one way or another, those involved in the activity said that these are not actions in search of fame or any other benefit. On the contrary, they are only motivated by feeling useful, doing well, and showing solidarity, one of the sentiments that have always characterized Cubans.

On this occasion, there were only two forms of management. The ideal would be to add more and increase the offers. Hopefully, this will be achieved by August.
