Like most women in the province of Las Tunas, Alina Batista Miranda joined the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC in Spanish) when she was 14 years old and, at that time, she did not even imagine how much of her life she would dedicate to the organization.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- Many almanacs have passed, and with them came experience, accumulated through constant work in different responsibilities, first as secretary of a block of the FMC and now in her role as delegate of the People’s Power in constituency 33, of Popular Council 5, in this city.
She is always present in her community, even if not physically, because in her work she has many responsibilities as an official in the Organization Department of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC).
But where she lives she has the most valuable thing, her husband and two children, who support her in all her projects. She also has the community work group, which strives to make the neighborhood a cleaner, more beautiful, and more peaceful environment for the well-being of the families.
"All of them are the perfect company to develop many ideas that we come up with because each one contributes criteria and material resources, if necessary. The best example is in a group of women who decided to put the FMC on a high."
"We united with the appearance of the COVID-19 disease and in each of the delegations we selected health managers and brigadistas to take care of the elderly alone, with the support of a doctor, a nurse, and a psychologist. Now we even take over their care in case of hospitalization."
Alina does not see the greatness of her daily actions and thinks they should be generalized in all the organization's blocks. Moreover, she considers the current work of the FMC to be elementary in the education of the younger generation, especially teenage girls.
"We involve them in events in their places of residence and then talk to them about different issues, especially the risks of pregnancy at such a young age. We also involve them in workshops for creative women, an opportunity to alleviate the rigors of the current economic crisis."
"The grandparents' clubs, in particular, receive valuable support from these meetings, because we have provided them with some equipment for their games, such as balls made of cloth. Now they are making small fish out of this material to simulate fishing activities."
In her constituency, Alina is the queen of thought and action. She never misses a date related to the health sector, and she holds talks on breastfeeding and tuberculosis as well as on the prevention of dengue fever and the Oropouche virus, which are transmitted by mosquitoes.
It leads the mission to keep residential areas beautiful and promotes projects to make food production in backyards and other areas a reality, eliminate micro-dumps, and reduce the occurrence of crime through surveillance and night-time patrols.
With her constant work, this simple woman from Las Tunas has shown that she is also a conqueror of the impossible, a winner in the face of the challenges imposed by these difficult times, and a noble and tireless soul. Not for nothing, she received the 23rd August award for her long career in the FMC a few days ago.
