The sowing of various crops in the current cold season is going well so far in the province of Las Tunas, with the planting of 14,121 hectares out of the 12,600 planned.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- There is a growing trend in the area of planting, particularly considering that this eastern region also completed its spring sowing program.
Alberto Diéguez López, sub-delegate of Agriculture in the province, pointed out that in the so-called rustic crops - the most demanded by the population - the sowing of bananas is at 113 percent and of sweet potatoes at 141 percent, a good performance that cannot be said to be the same for cassava, which is much lower than planned.
The director told the Cuban News Agency that several municipalities had not achieved all the crops. However, there is still time to reach their own goals since the cold season ends in February.
Diéguez López explained that the agreements made with producers for crop contracting in 2025 are not notable for the quantity achieved but for the way they were established. The process involved direct communication with each producer to create objective plans that align with the number of areas and available resources.
To date, he said, 107,000 tons of different crops have been contracted, the fulfillment of which is significant for the supply of sales points and markets, especially if the productions have a better destination than in previous stages.
