Some 1,337 tons of fish must be harvested in the current year.

An organizational program to develop and increase aquaculture production is underway in the eight municipalities of Las Tunas, which has incorporated some 400 hectares in more than half a hundred water bodies.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- There are now 109 aquariums located on 6,841 hectares for the extraction of fish in this eastern territory, with the support of the Fishing Company, as the governing body, Agriculture, the sugar industry, and the armed forces.

At the same time, work is being done to repair 1.8 ponds, and two hatcheries for obtaining larvae have been completed, Adalberto Leyva Segura, director of operations at the Fishing Company, told the Cuban News Agency in an exclusive interview.

The water mirrors are found mainly in dams and micro-dams, but also in lagoons, ponds, regulators, bypasses, and the cooling areas of the sugar mills.

To meet the food needs of freshwater fish farming, a sowing plan of 213 hectares of cassava, sweet potato, and cowpea beans is underway t.

The current program aims to catch 1,337 tons of fish this year; therefore, all necessary measures must be implemented for the remainder of 2024.

The greatest difficulties in achieving more production have been linked to fuel limitations, instability of electricity structural problems of the vessels, and the absence of an efficient fishing strategy. (ACN)
