Dr. Emilio Lastre is second-degree specialist in psychiatry.

After decades of fair negotiations and following a career that is a source of pride in the faces of the generations of doctors who were trained under his rigor, Dr Emilio Alfonso Lastre Arrieta has been awarded as Professor Emeritus, in recognition of the Minister of Higher Education, and has become the first doctor of Las Tunas to receive such a distinction.

Las Tunas, Cuba - The homage is extended as a tribute to his merits and the outstanding career that has marked him in the classrooms. With equal fidelity, he is preceded by a whole life dedicated to delving into Psychiatry, from the main afflictions and the paths that most move and summon the population of the Balcony of Eastern Cuba.

Lastre, as he is affectionately known throughout the health sector, is the founder of teaching in Las Tunas with a rich curriculum that includes three completed lines of research. As a halo over his greying hair, he has been awarded the Annual Health Prize, the highest distinction among the ranks of the white coats, and several provincial recognitions for his academic work.

As a second-degree specialist in psychiatry, he was moved by the goal of first becoming a consulting professor, endorsed by his constancy inside and outside the Clodomira Acosta Hospital. Even now, when the years have forced him to rest, he continues to be active and lend prestige to the teaching movement that is fostered there.

It is no coincidence that this special category begins in the province with a doctor who carries the true sensibility of helping and comforting under his skin. Lastre has a master's degree in Successful Longevity and his contributions stand out in the care of patients with suicidal behavior, alcohol addiction, and geriatric patients with psychiatric disorders.

Many remember him as chairman of the Scientific Committee in the Provincial Health Directorate or as head of the Psychiatry Service. Others, closer to him, know of his skills as a methodological advisor, even outside Cuba, in Guinea Bissau, Ethiopia, Timor Leste, and Venezuela.

The academic community of Las Tunas welcomes the homage to the doctor of infinite wisdom, courtesy, and considerate ways of attending with sensitivity and respect. In his modesty, he clarifies that this recognition is only the mark that a father leaves on his three medical sons, the path he wanted to share with them.
