The Nueva Línea photovoltaic solar park, located in the community of Delicias, Puerto Padre municipality, was inaugurated today after an arduous investment process and its synchronization with the National Electric Energy System (SEN) on May 30th. The ceremony was attended by the Commander of the Revolution and Deputy Prime Minister Ramiro Valdés Menéndez.
Delicias, Puerto Padre.- The site, which is already generating 21.8 MW during daytime, is supported by 42,538 panels located on approximately 32 hectares. “Nueva Línea” is the first of three solar parks with seven inverters and equal generating capacity to be installed in the province.
In the current complex energy context, the park adds its capacity to the other four existing in the municipalities of Puerto Padre and Manatí, contributing nearly 32 MW of clean energy to the SEN.
Osbel Lorenzo Rodríguez, First Secretary of the Cuban Communist Party (PCC) in Las Tunas, praised the forces involved in its construction and assembly. He emphasized the will to foster the potential of the territory, with strong solar intensity and considerable wind speeds.
During the event, Vicente de la O Levy, Minister of Energy and Mines, recognized the workers of the Construction and Maintenance Company (ConAlza) and the Territorial Division of Copextel, responsible for the construction of the park and the installation of its technical equipment. The electricians who led the investment were also recognized, as well as other local entities that promoted the operation of the energy modules.
Carlos Arias Sobrino, General Director of the Electric Company in Las Tunas, clarified to 26 that although the contribution of the solar park will not solve the nighttime deficit, it constitutes a considerable aid in the recovery of the SEN through renewable energy.
Mario Castillo Salas, Deputy Director of the National Electricity Union, stated that the project involved an investment of 16 million in foreign currency and more than 1,000 million Cuban pesos. He reiterated that plans are underway to store energy using stabilization batteries and inject it into the SEN at night.
55 similar facilities are expected to be operational this year, as a result of the political will to achieve energy stability on the Island, with the support of international cooperation, particularly from China.
