Six champions from their respective leagues face off from this Tuesday until next Sunday for the baseball crown in the 2025 Americas Champions League, the first club competition in the sport of balls and strikes.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- The reigning champions of the Mexican Baseball League (LMB), the Nicaraguan Germán Pomares League (GPO), the Puerto Rico Double-A Superior League (LBSDA), the American Association of Professional Baseball (AAPB), the Cuban National Series (SN), and the Curaçao Double-A League (AA League) compete in the second Baseball Champions League Americas 2025 (BCL), at the Alfredo Harp Helú Stadium, in Mexico City.
The majestic sports facility is the headquarters of the host Diablos Rojos, considered favorites in Group A. They will compete against the Chinandega Tigres (GPO) of Nicaragua and the Florida Titanes (LBSDA) of Puerto Rico.
The Aztecas and Puerto Ricans will play in the second half today, following the matchup between the Kane County Cougars of the American AAPB (Double A League) and the Santa Maria Pirates (Double A League) of Curaçao, rivals of the Leñadores de Las Tunas in Group B.
The three-time National Series champions will not enter action until Wednesday, so today they will be closely monitoring their opponents' performance, about whom they only had information based on statistics provided by the Cuban Baseball Federation.
The Baseball Champions League had its first edition, considered promotional —or a trial— in 2023, in which the American Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks were crowned champions.
Riccardo Fraccari, the president of the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), said that this tournament is part of the innovation strategy of the governing body of baseball, softball, and baseball 5-a-side. “We are confident that it will open a new chapter in the history of international baseball. We look forward to launching an Asian Champions League and a European Champions League. We look forward to the day when we can honor a Champion of Champions, the winner of the World Champions League.”
The event's official website announced that the 2025 BCL Americas will have local and global television coverage on ESPN Sports and will also be broadcast in English through receivers in the United States and Canada.
