Summoned by the Ministry of Construction, the workers of the Las Tunas Building and Assembly Company (CONALZA) left several days ago for Guantánamo lands to support the restoration of works after Hurricane Oscar passed through that territory.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- Maikel Brito Peña, the director of the construction Company, explained to 26 that “upon arriving in San Antonio del Sur, we assumed the task of repairing the road to achieve access between this town and Imías, due to the breakage of more than 20 meters of the abutments, which connect the road with the bridge.
“The restoration of both abutments, with all the technical conditions, made transit possible for Imías. Our group worked hard to complete it in 52 hours. Many people and organizations were waiting for this response to cross.”
During the tasks, they did not lack recognition from the country's leadership. "When we finished our mission we received a message of congratulations and thanks from President Miguel Díaz-Canel and Prime Minister Manuel Marrero because this was expected to get there with food. If this route did not exist, a long and more complex journey would have to be made."
Some 23 workers make up the CONALZA brigade, which brought to Guantánamo trucks, a backhoe, a motor grader, and all the necessary equipment to carry out each task they are assigned.
They also intervened in the reconstruction of about 200 meters of a section of the road affected during the meteorological event in San Antonio del Sur.
"The first thing that was done was a detour to give way; now, we'll complete this work that is a bit difficult for us due to the weather conditions and the river flooding. But even so, here we are, the builders from Las Tunas."
These men rest about four or five hours a day. They are an example of the solidarity Las Tunas people, which is not long in coming wherever is needed.
