The improvement of the staff is a priority for the National Organization of Collective Law Firms.

The improvement of the staff of the National Office of Collective Law Firms (ONBC in Spanish) in the provincial capital of Las Tunas is a priority for its directors, who have sought ways to prepare their professionals for each of the legislative transformations that the country has experienced in recent years, to achieve a quality service for the population.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- One of the objectives is to increase the legal culture, starting with the Constitution of the Republic of 2019, which established a milestone in Cuban constitutionalism, providing chapters with greater rights and guarantees. Also, those related to due process and modifications in all areas, mainly in Criminal Law.

Aliubis Fernández González, director of the ONBC in the municipality of Las Tunas, said that lawyers -who provide representation and legal advice- must be up to date with this wide range of legislation, starting with the Magna Carta, as well as all the resolutions that follow.

‘One of the laws that brought many questions to the organization was that of Criminal Procedure or Law 143, which began on the first of January 2021, and which obliged us as a law firm to study everything related to representation at the beginning of the process, that is to say the first statement that takes the accompaniment of the lawyer and brings as a consequence the legal assistance.

"This is where the public defender plays a leading role, because we can go all the way to the investigation units and the police, i.e. we can take on this transformation."

Lawyers from Las Tunas were also involved in the battle for the approval of the Family Code; an arduous, committed stage, in which they held clarification meetings in each neighborhood on this new regulation.

Fernández González adds to this list the Procedural Code and the Administrative and Protection of Constitutional Rights laws, which the population should be aware of because the objective is that there should be legal certainty of all the guarantees provided by the Constitution so that citizens are not left unprotected.

"A Law of Penal Execution that came to give legal protection to the Cuban prisoner, and which ensures all the rights, duties and guarantees of any person who is taken to a criminal trial and serves a sentence.

Lawyers in Las Tunas are trained to provide fair assistance to the accused or the victim so that the population can find effective judicial protection in their offices.
