Awarding outstanding workers in Las Tunas on the occasion of May Day.

As part of the program commemorating May Day, the Cuban Central Workers' Union (CTC) in Las Tunas honored members, workplaces, and union leaders with outstanding results maintained over years of professional experience.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- After receiving the Lázaro Peña Order of the Third Degree, Víctor Manuel Rosales Merino, a civilian defense worker, visibly moved, described the award as "a prize and a commitment to continue working, and from my position, to contribute my part to the salvation of the Homeland."

José Ángel Menéndez Bello and Orlando Velázquez Parra, also members of the Civilian Defense Workers' Union (SNTCD) in Las Tunas, received the high decoration, as well.

Held at the Vicente García Memorial, in the city's historic center, the solemn ceremony honored workers Tamara Pupo Peña, Marisol Romero Velázquez, Nilda del Carmen Rodríguez Toranzo, Manuel Emilio Valcárcel Sánchez, and Marino Chamizo Machado, all from the SNTCD; Idania Rosa Hidalgo (Industrial Union) and Juan Carlos Nápoles Álvarez (Transport and Ports); and union leaders María Tristá Reyes (Sugar) and Enrique Gregorio Ojeda Peña (Transport and Ports).

The Jesús Menéndez Medal in the labor collective category was awarded to BANDEC Commercial Branch 6601 and the Las Tunas Insurance Directorate base business unit (UEB, in Spanish), both from the Public Administration, and to Provari Minint Las Tunas (Civilians of Defense).

With the Labor Achievement Medal, the organization recognized José Luis Sánchez Fajardo, William Agüero Batista, Maykel Brito Peña, Duvalier López Álvarez, Evilio Lora Pérez, José Ángel Mastrapa Martínez, Yurisander Machado Núñez, Asdel González Carmenate, and Agustín Miguel Torres Torres, all from the construction sector, for their participation in the recovery from the disasters caused by Hurricanes Rafael and Oscar that swept through the eastern and western provinces last year.

The Provincial Secretariat of the CTC praised the performance of 42 of its leaders and cadres with five, 10, and 15 years of uninterrupted and outstanding work, for their dedication to the mission of leading workers in the fulfillment of their assigned tasks.

Osbel Lorenzo, First Secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Cuban Communist Party (PCC); Yelenys Tornet Menéndez, Governor; along with political and government officials of the municipality, the CTC and its unions, presided over the ceremony and presented the high decorations.

At the house where El León de Santa Rita was born, the commitment was sealed with the legacy of the mambí General, the Revolution, and the Homeland, to be massively present in the plazas of the province on May Day, because the struggle continues and victory is certain.
