Swine Company is already working on sustainability of pork production

The sale of five pounds of pork to each family nucleus, through the retail trade network, began in this city, an action that the city dwellers applaud and the province's Swine Company is already working on sustainability.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- In this way, the sale of meat through the state route through the regular stores is fairer, at a reasonable price, and differentiated according to the part of the pig. The “liners” are given a coup de grace and the possibility of contagion with COVID-19 that can generate excessive crowding of people decreases.

To guarantee this purpose, we began to establish agreements with different entities in the territory, such as Tercnoazúcar, the Fishing and Dairy companies, to which we guarantee small pigs for their development and subsequent slaughter, explained to the Cuban News Agency Idalexis Peña Hechavarría, director of Las Tunas Swine.

When the animals are slaughtered - underlined the young manager - these companies give us the meat provided for in the agreement, in addition to food waste such as whey derived from milk, Saccharomyces, protein honey, silage, and what is derived from fishing, as raw material for the manufacture of feed.

This productive linkage – he added - will favor the decrease in the cost of production, since in February, for example, the company had losses of 6.7 million pesos, with the conversion of Cuban pesos into foreign currency, due to the high cost of imported soybeans and corn.

Although it is not enough, we already have 15 hectares planted with cassava for feeding the pigs in El Bleo, municipality of Majibacoa, which is the main breeding center of the Company and where we aspire to reach 10,000 heads for fattening.

The other center that decides the future of pig production in Las Tunas is the Integral Swine in the municipality of “Jesús Menéndez”- very affected by Hurricane Ike in 2008 - which plans to host six thousand animals also destined for fattening.

The Swine Company of the province tours each municipality, to deliver land to its units in those territories and then provide them with the reproducers that will lay the foundations for breeding.

With these purposes and the creation of livestock modules, it is intended to do something similar to the initiative of the city of Las Tunas, to sell pork in a controlled manner to family nuclei in the main urban massif of each municipality.

The director of the Las Tunas Swine Company said that the effort to which they are subjected also responds to the need to assign more work for the 140 workers and therefore a greater economic contribution, since the main source of the meat also came from the swine agreements with individual producers, which are now at 50 percent.
