In May 2024, the workers of the productive pole Lote 107, in the Amancio municipality, told the first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba, Miguel Díaz Canel Bermúdez, that they could count on them to produce food.

Luis García, a leader of the Lote 107 agricultural pole.Amancio, Las Tunas.- Several months have passed since the visit of the Cuban president, and the commitment remains intact, according to its leader, Luis García Pérez, who added that now they have planted about 50 hectares of different crops such as cassava, sweet potato, banana, and tomato.

“We have an area of close to 150 hectares, and the idea is to start preparing and planting them staggered. For example, in 2025, we want to reach one hundred hectares of plantain and 28 of cassava, a high figure but one that can be met."

“These are lands of the Azcuba sugar group in Las Tunas, and its workers are our main destination. We serve meals to all the platoons involved in the harvest and land preparation, in addition to the existing point of sale in the Amancio sugar industry."

In the face of economic adversities, the collective applies alternatives such as animal traction and has three pairs of oxen that are in the training process. These animals are currently getting their corral ready, which will guarantee their care in the event of possible criminal acts.

“We also alleviate the lack of fertilizers with biological products that we make ourselves to nourish the plantations. We use organic matter and compost with cachaza and cattle manure. So far, these practices are working."

“We have no problems with water. There are two 75-liter-per-second turbines here, which guarantee this entire area. For now, the process is watering and we make canals -with hoes-, thus, they reach everywhere. This is until we can buy an irrigation system that benefits our work and the soil."

The collective provides the conditions for the workers to carry out their work. They have a canteen offering lunch and snacks. In addition, salaries range between eight thousand and 12 thousand pesos, depending on the harvest they make.

“We continue to think about increasing the production of different items. Now we are fencing off the area around the dining room to raise a hundred laying hens, and we are building a pigsty for the pigs we already have. We are even buying rams."

The pole workers are active in both sessions of the day, encouraged by the Party and the government in the municipality. They also have the support of part of the local population, which often accompanies them in cleaning and sowing tasks through productive work.
