Las Tunas hosted a Regional Workshop on Community Nursing.

The influence of health personnel on the quality of life of the population and the need to continue strengthening health promotion and education within the neighborhoods were the focus of the Regional Workshop on Community Nursing, held in the province of Las Tunas.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- More than 70 delegates from all Cuban eastern provinces defended, through academic research, the extent to which the specialty can transform communities from knowledge and provide their inhabitants with tools to face transcendental processes such as population aging.

Jhoannys Diannurys Diéguez Peña, head of the Nursing Department in Las Tunas, shared with the press the importance of the event, which emphasized the prevention of diseases and health damage through continuous, comprehensive medical care in the community.

Regional Workshop on Community Nursing held in Las Tunas.She also detailed the need to continue raising the specialization in nursing profiles through these exchanges, with research based on the main health problems in our communities, and the real demands and characteristics of each of them.

Through keynote lectures and working groups, the most worrying scourges in current times were addressed, such as the interactions between adolescence and pregnancy, the care of the elderly, and how to achieve healthy aging.

During the academic event, the paper Morbidity of Patients Admitted to the Geriatrics Service of the Dr. Ernesto Guevara de la Serna General Teaching Hospital, by Jesús Ramón Chacón, Master in Satisfactory Longevity, was awarded.

The study assesses the behavior and interrelation of Community and Gero-geriatric Nursing, intending to achieve quality standards in this age group.

Chacón stands out in the nursing environment in Las Tunas for the follow-up of this subject through a rigorous research process, which he shares in his teaching activity as a guarantee of good training for future nurses’ generations.

The papers Nursing Work During Respectful Neonatal Maternal Care and Inter-sectoral Intervention in the Quality of Life of the Elderly, presented by Marilín Áreas and Idaelis Hinojosa, respectively, were also granted prizes.

The Regional Workshop was the prelude to the 2nd National Symposium of Rural Community Nursing, to be held in November, in the city of Cienfuegos, to further deepen the care of the elderly and the treatment of adolescents and pregnant women.

These academic meetings warn about the need for supervision and continuous training of caregivers for the elderly and the role of nursing in achieving better living conditions in the communities.
