The incorrect management of the livestock in the grazing areas is among the causes

The municipality of Majibacoa today recorded an increase of more than 200 crimes against livestock, compared to a similar period the previous year, which represents 68 percent of criminal activity in general, confirmed authorities of the Ministry of the Interior (Minint in Spanish) in the territory.

Majibacoa, Las Tunas.- In the investigations carried out after each incident, it has been possible to identify as one of the main causes of the increase in this type of crime the incorrect management of the livestock in the grazing areas, that is, insufficient security measures in the custody of the animals, perimeter fences in poor condition and unsafe corrals.

In addition, some irregularities hinder clarification, such as late reporting, usually after the first 72 hours following the theft, and violations by the owners in preserving the crime scene, a situation that greatly limits the expert work and the correct application of the canine technique.

So far this year, more than 500 complaints have been filed in the municipality related to the theft and slaughter of livestock, affecting more than 900 head of cattle, which significantly damages the livestock patrimony. Among the communities with the highest incidence are Gastón, La Posta, and Omaja.

In these neighborhoods, as in the rest of the locality, the authorities of the Ministry of Interior are calling for a little more support for the sector chiefs in the confrontation and popular vigilance in the neighborhoods, the latter being the most important of all the measures, as the preventive work is decisive and very beneficial.
