mosquitoThe Health System in the province intensifies the actions of vector control to reduce the high rates of infestation of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, the main transmitter of dengue and other viruses that complicate the epidemiological landscape.

Focal treatment, known as fumigation, in addition to case blockages, are the fundamental strategies to destroy the insect and stop the flight of the dangerous vector. Intensive surveillance takes place in the four areas of the main municipality, in the Romárico Oro polyclinic, in Puerto Padre, and in five communities of Majibacoa municipality.

According to Dr. Martha Vergana Lima, acting director of the Gustavo Aldereguía polyclinic, in this city, this semi-urban area presents a very complicated situation. The organization of work and the availability of human resources have allowed them to reach all their popular councils with different actions.

However, they still do not obtain the expected results, taking into account that the presence of this mosquito remains high and new cases of dengue suspects are reported, a disease that circulates among the inhabitants of Las Tunas. This is influenced by the poor quality of the fumigation and the low contribution of the inhabitants.

Seventy-five percent of the outbreaks are located in the water containers located on the floor, which demonstrates the failure of the family and workplaces on the vector control, the poor perception of risk of the population against viruses that both affect health.

Health authorities recommend going to a doctor in the presence of signs such as headache, pain in muscles and joints, fever, rash and malaise. In the beginning, dengue causes symptoms similar to those of the flu, but it can evolve into a deadly picture.

Its prevention and control depend on the effectiveness with the measures oriented to destroy its transmitting agent, as well as to be aware about the disease. It is in work centers, houses and neighborhoods where the battle against the vector must be carried out, which is equivalent to defending life.
