National Union of Historians of Cuba (UNHIC)

The results of the diligent team that integrates the National Union of Historians of Cuba (UNHIC) in Las Tunas achieved, a couple of years ago, that the province won the national venue for the Day of the Cuban Historian.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- However, the dilemmas associated with the pandemic and the restriction it imposed have meant that in 2023, when the territory repeats the conquest, many insist on the value of a sustained and ascending work over various calendars.

In all this, they affirm, the encouragement of the Ph.D. José Guillermo Montero Quesada, who led the destinies of UNHIC here until his death in August 2021, played a leading role; and also, of course, the commitment of the 360 members of the organization, associates in 20 grassroots sections, the most recent of which, by the way, was constituted in the Provincial School of the Cuban Communist Party (PCC).

Perseverance in research, teamwork, and the birth of valuable events such as the one related to the dimension of the teaching of History, which took place last March, have confirmed the significance of everyone's efforts during the stage.

The Day of the Cuban Historian is celebrated every first of July when the appointment of Emilio Roig de Leuchsenring in charge of the then recently inaugurated Office of the Historian of Havana is commemorated. It is the highlight of an event that began on June 17, the 118th anniversary of the death of Máximo Gómez, and will last until July 31, when it will be three years since the death of Eusebio Leal.
