Brothers Alberto and Wílmer Santana Hernández

At El esfuerzo (The effort) farm, which belongs to the Juan Manuel Ameijeiras Credit and Service Cooperative (CCS) in the municipality of Jesús Menéndez, the Jóvenes por la Vida Condition (Youth for Life) was given to the brothers Alberto and Wílmer Santana Hernández.

"Jesús Menéndez", Las Tunas.- One of them stands out for his constancy in the production of goat milk and its derivatives; while the other is recognized for his performance in the work of the sheep program.

During these months of confrontation with the COVID-19, they have not stopped working for the feeding of the people, without neglecting their own personal improvement. It's good to hear them talk about the land close to the popular jargon, but with the knowledge that life in the countryside gives, noble and direct.

Alberto, the older of the two, and also the less shy in front of the recorder, explains "At the farm, we are making a foray into the production of a local breed of dark-coated pigs and other breeds of these animals to reach more volumes of meat. The intention is to make the first production site of this type in the area. Nor do we neglect the rest of the work, because here each one of us has his own responsibilities."

"For example, I am working on the genetic improvement of both goats and sheep. I am already qualified in artificial insemination and by the end of this year I will graduate from the Veterinary School."

"My brother is in the fourth year of that same specialty. He is now doing an internship at the local Pork Company. You learn a lot and everything is put in function of the farm."

Wílmer and Yanelis, their parents, educated them in the love for the land. And they were also taught the values of helping others, to be part of a society committed to the lives of its people. So the members of the Provincial Committee of the Young Communist League (UJC, in Spanish)) found them working that morning.

They are not alone. During these months, boys like them, as well as production and service centers, are receiving the embrace of the young Cuban political vanguard. They come recognizing the "Jóvenes por la Vida" to those who are in the front line, without fanfare, without jokes, without excuses. They are many. Among them are these two boys from Chaparra. Alberto and Wílmer, ready to win.
