Water meters installed in Las Tunas

At the end of last July, more than 3,700 meters were installed in Las Tunas to control water consumption in the residential sector, representing 69 percent of the plan for the year.

Las Tunas, Cuba - The Provincial Water and Sewerage Company plans to install 5,300 units in 2020, equivalent to 31 percent of the coverage in the territory's homes.
Alcides Naranjo Perez, director of Maintenance of the entity, said to the Cuban News Agency that the implementation of these equipments facilitates the development of a strategy to save this important natural resource.

The supplies to continue with the installation are in the province, he said, so they hope that by the coming month of November the plan established for the current year will be concluded.

All state entities have water meters and billing is done through these meters, only the buildings that are in the construction phase were not integrated into the system.

Regarding the importance of this installation, he explained that water metering is strategic for the country and gives the possibility to the Water and Sewerage Company to create hydrometric circuits, areas that allow measuring the amount of water entering and consumed by users.

Naranjo Pérez stated that these limits will allow for an assessment of where the losses of the natural resource are, which are the high consumers, who use it above its index, and in correspondence with all this, the necessary measures will be applied to achieve a more rational use.

The installation of the meters in Las Tunas takes on special importance, because this is the driest province in Cuba, with an average of 1,038 millimeters of rainfall annually.
