The renewable energy generated by photovoltaic panels receives an important boost in Las Tunas with the synchronization to the National Electric Power System of the third park of this type and the first constructive actions of the fourth one, which must be completed by the end of this year.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- "Parada2", in the municipality of Puerto Padre, is the largest photovoltaic park with 4.4 MW of installed capacity. It began to provide electricity in the testing phase and the specialists value its start-up as positive, arriving just in time for the summer stage, when the demand of electricity in the country increases.
This photovoltaic park is the second one finished in the territory in 2018. "Manatí 1" (2.2 MW) was synchronized on April and it was officially inaugurated by authorities of the Cuban Communist Party and the Government, during the celebrations for the 65th anniversary of the assaults on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes garrisons.
So far, the installation of Chinese technology has generated around 705 MW, which represents a saving of 183 tons of diesel and 200,000 Cuban pesos. At the same time, the emission of 423 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere has been avoided.
The construction of "Manatí 2" has started just a few meters away from there with the technology of pile-driving, which speeds up the construction work. Its building is part of the National Program "País 100 MW". It must be completed before the end of 2018. It will also produce 2.2 MW of energy.
The electrification of isolated houses, the pumping of water for irrigation and its use in dairies, as well as the replacement of steam boilers in sanitary institutions and tourism facilities, are part of the applications of the photovoltaic and solar thermal energy in Las Tunas.
The Electric Company in Las Tunas province has planned for the next year the building of three more photovoltaic parks, two in Puerto Padre and one in "Amancio". Besides, this company will continue developing the work carried out in the wind farms "La Herradura 1" and "La Herradura 2". The building of a third one in the area of Nuevas Grandes, in the municipality of Manatí, is being planned.
