His Excellency Mr. Andrés Pavón Murillo, ambassador of Honduras

Honduras is once again among the countries participating in the 53rd edition of the Cucalambeana Fiesta (online), whose ties of collaboration and friendship have been strengthened in this event of peasant traditions.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- By phone, 26Digital spoke with his Excellency Mr. Andrés Pavón Murillo, that country's ambassador to Cuba, who offered criteria regarding the revelry.
“Everything that comes from Las Tunas is welcome and with love. The Cucalambeana Fiesta is a window that Cuba opens to the world to establish communication links and share the cultural work of our countries. I have witnessed the strength that the event has from Culture and I attest to the effort that is made to defend these ties,” the Ambassador said.

Thanks to his collaboration, it was possible to materialize a documentary on La Ceiba, one of the three most important states in their country, which has a culture very similar to ours, the Garífuna, which refers to the descendants of Africans and aboriginal Caribes and Arahuacos.

“There is a twinning between La Ceiba and Las Tunas, peoples with various points of contact. From the language we still maintain expressions of the indigenous language, in our gastronomy, there are dishes made from cassava and coconut; we have colorful costumes, musical instruments such as the drum and the snail, among other elements similar to yours," the diplomat added.

Last year, the Honduran delegation was the largest in the Cucalambeana Fiesta. In this context, a cultural collaboration agreement was signed here between La Ceiba and this eastern Cuban land, aimed at sharing experiences, stoking historical features and promoting the development of traditions that are defended by both parties.

This important agreement was formalized by Germán Leonel Cruz Paz, councilor of the La Ceiba Municipal Corporation and Martha Oduardo Ramírez, provincial director of Culture in Las Tunas.

Meanwhile, Mr. Andrés Pavón Murillo, who has been participating in the Cucalambeana Fiesta for several consecutive years, received last year the Replica of the Pen of Juan Cristóbal Nápoles Fajardo El Cucalambé, the bard to which the greatest guateque of this Island is dedicated.

“El Cornito traditionally develops a cultural movement for the well-being of our countries that deserves to continue being defended. There is also the cry of rebellion of the peoples of Latin America,” the Honduran ambassador to Cuba concluded in his dialogue with this media.
