Brasilia.-"All this is threatened by the future government, which aims to deepen the neoliberal policies implemented by Michel Temer following the coup that brought down Dilma Rousseff in 2016,' Lula wrote in a letter to the national directory of the Workers' Party (PT).
He added that Brazilian people have given us the mission of keeping the flame of hope alive and foresees that the persecution of the party and social movements will increase.
"We have to prepare for new attacks, which have already begun," said the founder of the PT, who has served eight months in jail after being accused of alleged acts of corruption.
Lula also thanked the president of the party, Gleisi Hoffmann, and the entire national leadership "for having kept the PT united in such difficult times; for having supported my candidacy until the last consequences and for having committed totally, with great force, to the candidacy of comrade Fernando Haddad."
The former president also lauded other leaders and governors for the struggle that "led us to obtain 47 million votes in the second round (elections of October 28)."
Despite harsh persecution and plots against us, the PT remains the largest and most important popular party in this country. And that puts us in front of immense responsibilities, he remarked. (PL)
