As far as production is concerned, the secondary continues to be the main activity at the Stainless Steel Company (Acinox) in the eastern province of Las Tunas.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The lack of raw materials, especially ferrous scrap, the tense national situation with electricity generation, and internal problems, caused the company's steel mill to remain stopped for 360 days during the last calendar year. The 200 T Rolling Mill did not fare any better, as its period of lethargy totaled 330 days. Consequently, the company could not honor its production plans for carbon steel billets and corrugated bars.

Therefore, the development of its secondary productions continued to keep it afloat. In fact, according to its management, practically all areas of the plant focused their efforts in this direction. This, they explained, allowed Acinox to open its diapason and consolidate the provision of six services and to place on the market a range of 40 products as diverse as construction materials, spare parts for different types of equipment, metallic structural elements, components for carpentry, among others.

The success of this strategy was evident in its internal finances and was also noted in its contribution to strategic sectors for the Balcony of Eastern Cuba. In the annual balance, they highlighted the relevance of their decisive participation in the solution of specific problems in first-order institutions of this territory in areas such as health, drinking water supply, food and sugar industries, and recreational facilities.

In 2025, they anticipate, they plan to develop several new areas, among which stand out the production of bottled oxygen at maximum capacity, aggregates of different granulometries, granite, bagged quicklime, as well as the manufacture of more metallic elements.

Science and innovation, they concluded, continue to be a pillar in the company's programmatic platform; if in 2024 they advance in post-graduate training programs involving 23 of their workers, in the coming year they expect to continue with projects aimed at the use of water and white and black slag.

Due to its size, Acinox Las Tunas is one of the companies that has a great influence on the economic balance of the province. Hence the relevance of each of its steps in order to overcome difficulties and move forward.
