The first stage of the population study to detect possible cases of COVID-19 culminated in this province.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Dr. Jesús Manuel León Silva, head of the Health Management Post, indicated that 127 nasopharyngeal exudates were carried out on members of 45 families.

The selection was made randomly by a computerized program, without specific criteria. The participants belong to six medical offices in the provincial capital and three in the municipality of Manatí. During this investigation, with the prior consent of the people involved, a survey was applied to them that delved into personal data and others referring to the area of residence, exposure to the virus and medical record.

Subsequently, the real-time PCR sample was taken, the diagnosis of which is issued by the Pedro Kourí Institute of Tropical Medicine. According to León Silva, some results are still pending and he highlighted the importance of this study in determining the level of virus circulation in asymptomatic carriers.

In the event that some residents are positive, such as the patient from Manatí announced this Monday, the established protocol for the management of patients and their contacts will be followed. The exercise will be repeated three more times, every 21 days, to make an evaluation after 63 days from the initial analysis.

Despite the stable epidemiological situation, the authorities call not to neglect hygiene or isolation measures, according to the guidelines of the nation.
