Only 68 percent of what was planned for the January-April quarter has been planted

Besides supporting the confrontation with COVID-19 and the harvest, the sugarcane planting is the other major task that workers of the agro-industrial sector face in Las Tunas.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Taking into account that the area to be planted during the first semester exceeds 10,800 hectares, the goal demands a colossal effort, the optimal use of irrigation systems and every opportunity given by the climate.

The pressure is better understood, if we analyze that some 524 hectares have been sealed, 68 percent of what was planned for the January-April quarter. Except for Majibacoa, which has already exceeded its commitment, the remaining territories must work hard.

In this regard, the engineer Danilo Infante Morales, head of the Sugarcane Group at the Sugar Company, acknowledged that the most critical situation, even with the danger of not complying with their plans, is presented by Manatí and "Amancio.”

Regarding the development of the harvest, it should be noted that, despite the accumulation of imponderables that affect milling and agro-industrial efficiency, Las Tunas will continue adding sugar until the climate allows it and is economically feasible.

Two of its three sugar mills in the campaign - Antonio Guiteras and Majibacoa - are already among the most productive in Cuba, exceeding the 50 thousand tons produced.
