The supply of food to try to meet the demand of the population is a priority

In the current context of the country with the new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, the people of Las Tunas are focused, above all, on the health care system and access to food products. And it is precisely the constant search for alternatives a priority of the Provincial Defense Council (CDP), which evaluates compliance with national and local guidelines.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- In this week's meetings, the proposal to hospitalize the positive cases of the COVID-19 in the province of Las Tunas, which until now assumes a healthcare facility in Holguín, has transpired in the Guillermo Domínguez hospital in Puerto Padre. Health authorities assure that it is still in a preparation stage, taking into account the implications of health care rearrangement, and this includes exchanges with the staff.

There is no lack of analyzes of the conditions in the Isolation Centers, as well as the intention of having other premises that could provide the service at a certain time. Likewise, they review the development of the active inquiry and demand the greatest rigor in both urban and rural areas.

Obligatory issue is the supply of food to try to meet the demand of the population. In this sense, Manuel Pérez Gallego, president of the CDP, referred to the need to bring high-demanded products closer to the communities (small squares, regular food stores ...) to avoid large concentrations in the places usually designated for that purpose.

Among the actions are the start in the municipalities of Colombia, Puerto Padre and Las Tunas of the regulated sale of one pound of chicken per consumer, without subsidy, and the progressive distribution by family nuclei of various food offerings and of the toilet and cleanliness items.

A greater variety of viands, vegetables and fruits is demanded, which requires a greater demand for producers to comply with the agreements. However, it is known that the plantain suffers affectations in its yields due to the intense drought.

To date, rainfall in the province has registered only 40 percent of the historical average, which means that only 66.4 millimeters fell from the 167 predicted. The reservoirs accumulate 41 percent of their capacity with 145, 6 million cubic meters and the most complex situation is presented by Juan Sáez, Copo del Chato, El Rincón, Playuela, Jobabito and Cayojo.

The need to implement actions to guarantee water to isolated communities, which do not have the resource, has also been assessed.

In transportation, the hiring mechanisms for the transfer of workers and the solution of special cases are perfected. As part of the measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, different points were established for vehicle disinfection and epidemiological surveillance, especially of those entering the territory.

The Provincial Defense Council calls for less circulation of state transportation means because there are too many on the streets, despite the suspension or low activity of various sectors. It is also requested that only the driver travel on motorcycles and bicycles, to maintain the required distance between people.

Regarding the behavior of electricity consumption, a stable indicator is reported, mainly due to the stoppage of Acinox, a highly consuming industry. Daytime demand grows and at nighttime, it behaves according to the plan.

In Las Tunas, the actions to face COVID-19 are daily detailed. However, the success of this new challenge depends on strict compliance with hygienic and social distancing that in the current circumstances constitutes a sample of solidarity and responsibility.
