The collaboration program in the area of Health began in Cuba in 1963. More than 55 collaborators from Las Tunas make up the Henry Reeve International Contingent of Doctors Specialized in Disaster Situations and Serious Epidemics, which today provides services in several countries affected by the new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Bachelor Manuel Sosa, provincial director of Medical Collaboration, told 26 Digital that “we have specialists in Argentina, Suriname, Haiti, Qatar, Venezuela, Angola and Barbados. As nations request aid, new collaborators will be incorporated.”

These professionals are well prepared and receive additional training at the Central Medical Collaboration Unit to expand their knowledge of the disease, medical protocols, and, above all, of protective measures to avoid the contagion with the new disease.

Sosa said that given the call to join these ranks, the health professionals from Las Tunas have stepped forward. And it is not a simple attitude assumed in situations of emergencies or disasters, because here the pain of others is felt as one's own and the meaning of loving one's neighbor is valued.

Currently, more than 1,500 internationalist cooperators work in some 35 nations, most of which report positive cases to SARS-CoV-2. For this reason, the health personnel have received the necessary information as part of the prevention actions and so far all are in good health.

Dr. Guiusel Cutiño Pavón, provincial deputy director of the sector, informed the local radio that they maintain systematic communication with them through the Central Medical Collaboration Unit and the Surveillance Center. Likewise, she recognized the altruism and the work of the cooperators in this part of the Cuban geography.

The collaboration program in the area of Health began in Cuba in 1963. More than 50 years after, those who support an essentially humanistic system continue willing to share the resources the country has and their solidarity.
