Anti-Covid-19 pediatric vaccination campaign

The province of Las Tunas will begin this week the anti-COVID-19 vaccination of the population group between 11 and 18 years in its eight municipalities.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Some 40,183 inhabitants are included, who will receive two doses of the Soberana 02 vaccine and one of Soberana Plus. The Public Health System prepares scenarios in each health area to proceed with the vaccination campaign. Resources and healthcare personnel are enlisted so that the immunization of this population group flows in the most organized way possible, without setbacks.

Dr. Norkis Sánchez Alonso, head of Primary Health Care, points out that the arrival of the vaccines is expected in the province. The Medicines Marketing and Distribution Company (Emcomed Las Tunas) assumes its rapid and safe distribution, once received in the territory, with full responsibility and compliance with the established parameters to preserve the properties of the immunogens.

Sánchez Alonso distinguished that “for a second moment, we will carry out the vaccination campaign for children between 2 and 10 years of age. It is scheduled to be in the second half of September. For this stage, 54,739 infants will be vaccinated, with the same scheme.”

HOW DOES THE TEMPORARY IMMUNIZATION SYSTEM WORK?

“The first dose of Sovereign 02 is applied the so-called day zero; 28 days later, a second dose of the vaccine is also applied. Just 28 days after that second puncture, the anti-Covid-19 cycle ends with a dose of Soberana Plus,” the doctor explains.

“A differentiated vaccination center will be available in each health area, intended for pediatric cases with associated comorbidities, where a specialist in Pediatrics will assist, to diagnose and attend to possible secondary reactions during the process,” the official from the Provincial Directorate of Public Health in Las Tunas said.

The governing organization for the vaccination against the SARS-CoV-2 is supported by the staff of the Family Doctor and Nurse Program, which cares for Cuba’s people's health in each community.
