BioCubaFarma President Eduardo MartínezBioCubaFarma President Eduardo Martínez highlighted the role played by Cuba's pharmaceutical industry in the control of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which causes Covid-19.

Havana, Cuba.- In the COVID-19 protocol, 85 percent of the drugs used were supplied by BioCubaFarma, Martínez said on the last day of the 4th International Health Convention held at Havana’s International Conference Center.

Because of this health emergency, a series of drugs were made available to the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), first of all with the idea of raising the population’s immunity levels, he said.

It was essential to raise the immune system, hence the use of Biomodulin-T and Nasalferon, for example. The latter was administered to the doctors who were helping fight the new coronavirus in other parts of the world.

Its effectiveness was proven since very few doctors were infected with COVID-19, the Cuban scientist pointed out.

The alpha interferon and its combination with gamma interferon were also effective, preventing patients from getting seriously ill and losing their lives, Martinez added.

In the fight against the pandemic, Jusvinza and Nimotuzumab were also used to treat inflammation. (PL)
