The president of the National Assembly of the People's Power (parliament), Esteban Lazo, affirmed on Monday that despite the complex scenario for Cuba, the country is resisting and making progress in its purposes.

Havana, Cuba.- In the presentation of the tenth ordinary session, the Parliament speaker highlighted results such as the 30 laws passed during the current legislature, which is coming to an end, and the progress of the electoral process.

Lazo pointed out that the leader of the Revolution, Army General Raul Castro, is virtually following the debates that began on Monday at Havana’s International Conference Center and which are being attended by the Cuban head of State, Miguel Diaz-Canel.

He acknowledged the resilience of the Cuban people in a particularly difficult year, due to the tightening of the blockade and adverse circumstances such as natural disasters and accidents, but stressed the need to address issues such as the increase in crime and migration.

The lawmakers paid tribute to the legislators who have passed away since the previous session and during the day they will analyze the general objectives and goals for the 2023 Economy Plan.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Alejandro Gil will report on the progress of this sector and the fulfillment of the approved plan of measures.

Other topics on the agenda include an update on the recovery of the province of Pinar del Rio (west) after Hurricane Ian, and on the situation of the National Electro-energy System. (PL)
